Hi Mike,

I think that our point of disagree is about who talks about Wimax when refering to different technology. I’m not talking about vendors because they aren’t them who talk about Wimax when using modified 802.11.

In Spain a lot of integrators or resellers talk about Wimax when refering to wireless broadband solutions…that’s why I’ve made this post. Even the costumer asks for Wimax solutions when they want a Wireless Broadband Solution without knowing the real meaning of what Wimax is.

In this post I want to show the differences between “Wimax” and Wifi, not Wimax and WiFi. I’m sorry about the translation, but I haven’t enough time to write in both English and Spanish ;D

Regards.

I am reading a translated version, but I still cannot see anywhere where a manufacturer is claiming its a wimax device using wifi chipset. I understand there are TDD based wifi, but I don’t see how you are making the point about «Wimax». Wimax != TDD. Nor does TDD Wifi claim they are Wimax. TDD and FDD has been around long before Wimax. You even say they are 802.11 in your table.

At this point, we are just disagreeing on semantics and I think I understand what you were trying to convey, but it must be lost in the translation.

Such as? I have only come across wimax equipment that have wimax chipsets, not 802.11 chips that have been changed to work with 802.16.
